Pay attention to the world around you. Listen to the word of God and put it first in your life. When things go well, don’t question God and ask if you deserve this. Be thankful to God for His blessings. When things go bad despite you’re doing as God wants, don’t question God and ask if you deserve this. Realize that this is an opportunity to grow stronger. Be confident that God knows those who are His and He watches day and night over them
The scripture talks about how God will confirm His Word with signs following. We often think that just means when someone ministers that there will be salvation, healing and miracles. And yes, that’s true. But it also means when God puts a promise in your heart, He will confirm that promise by showing you some kind of sign that the promise is going to come to pass, something to boost your faith and encourage you.
It may be something small. It may be through a dream, another person, nature, His Word, or even something that seems like a coincidence. It looks insignificant to others; but to you, it’s God saying, “I’m in control. I’m directing your steps.”
A friend might make one comment. They don’t even realize it, but it’s exactly what you needed to hear. Something lights up on the inside. That’s a sign from God. You know God is in control. You know He is fighting your battles. That’s a sign from God.
When we’re tempted to get down, we can go back and say, “No. I’ve got this sign. God confirmed it through a phrase that was spoken to me, through a dream that I had, through His Word when this passage of scripture jumped out to me.” See, God controls nature. He controls animals. God controls the whole universe. If you will be sensitive, you will see the hand of God at work even in the small things.
There is no such thing as a coincidence, no such thing as a lucky break. That’s the hand of God at work in your life. It could very well be God confirming a promise that He has placed in your heart.
Will there be times when we’re feeling doubtful or distracted and we miss a sign? Yes. Will there be times when wishful thinking makes us see a sign where there isn’t one? Yes. Is there a way to be 100% sure something is a sign when it’s not a huge, dramatic one? No. This is where faith comes into it. Most of the time, God won’t let us either miss signs or imagine them; as long as you’re not being deliberately unreasonable about how you interpret what you experience, you’ll get it right most of the time.
God’s signs of existence within ourselves and the human body
Take a good look inside yourself. Most people fail to look inside themselves for God. Instead, they look to their surroundings and conclude that since the world is such a mess, God must not be there, if He ever existed at all. They forget that since God created us, we bear His fingerprints and those fingerprints point to His existence. British philosopher, Dr. Antony Flew, was a leading spokesperson for atheism, actively involved in debate after debate. However, scientific discoveries within the last 30 years brought him to a conclusion he could not avoid. In a video interview in December 2004 he stated, “Super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature.” Prominent in his conclusion were the discoveries of DNA. Here’s why.
DNA in our cells is very similar to an intricate computer program
In the same way, DNA is made up of four chemicals, abbreviated as letters A, T, G, and C. Much like the ones and zeros, these letters are arranged in the human cell like this: CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGAT and so on. The order in which they are arranged instructs the cell’s actions.
What is amazing is that within the tiny space in every cell in your body, this code is three billion letters long!!
To grasp the amount of DNA information in one cell, “a live reading of that code at a rate of three letters per second would take thirty-one years, even if reading continued day and night.” Wait, there’s more.
It has been determined that 99.9% of your DNA is similar to everyone’s genetic makeup. What is uniquely you comes in the fractional difference in how those three billion letters are sequenced in your cells.
The U.S. government is able to identify everyone in our country by the arrangement of a nine-digit social security number. Yet, inside every cell in you is a three-billion-lettered DNA structure that belongs only to you. This code identifies you and continually instructs your cells’ behavior.
You Can See Why DNA Is Important
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project (that mapped the human DNA structure) said that one can “think of DNA as an instructional script, a software program, sitting in the nucleus of the cell.”
Perry Marshall, an information specialist, comments on the implications of this. “There has never existed a computer program that wasn’t designed…[whether it is] a code, or a program, or a message given through a language, there is always an intelligent mind behind it.”
Just as former atheist Dr. Antony Flew questioned, it is legitimate to ask oneself regarding this three billion letter code instructing the cell…who wrote this script? Who placed this working code, inside the cell?
It’s like walking along the beach and you see in the sand, “Mike loves Michelle.” You know the waves rolling up on the beach didn’t form that–a person wrote that. It is a precise message. It is clear communication. In the same way, the DNA structure is a complex, three-billion-lettered script, informing and directing the cell’s process.
How can one explain this sophisticated messaging, coding, residing in our cells?
On June 26, 2000, President Clinton congratulated those who completed the human genome sequencing. President Clinton said, “Today we are learning the language in which God created life. We are gaining ever more awe for the complexity, the beauty, the wonder of God’s most divine and sacred gift.” Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, followed Clinton to the podium stating, “It is humbling for me and awe inspiring to realize that we have caught the first glimpse of our own instruction book, previously known only to God.”
When looking at the DNA structure within the human body, we cannot escape the presence of intelligent (incredibly intelligent) design.
First, we are all born with an innate knowledge of what is right and wrong. Even a young child knows that when they misbehave they are doing something that goes against their parents’ wishes. The knowledge of good and evil comes from God. It was put there to keep us in balance and to allow us to understand why we need to come to God for forgiveness.
Second, we have a desire to seek love. Our whole life is spent trying to fill a gap that exists in our souls; a gap that only be filled by the love of God. No matter what we do to try and fill this gap — money drugs, alcohol, sex, possessions – the hole will never be filled until we turn back to God and These are only two of the inward feelings that should tell us that we are more than just some random mistake of nature; that we are created, that a real God that created us, and that He is still there watching over us.
Signs of God’s existence in the Universe
It takes greater faith to believe that an unseen God exists than it does to just dismiss Him because you cannot physically confirm that He is there. For those who deal in evidence there is proof all around you and inside of you that God does exist. Is there any proof that God exists? Take a good look around. When most people look at the world around them, they see only the trees; they do not see the forest that is there. It should be obvious that God exists because of His creation, not only us humans, but the world we live in, the galaxy that world is in, and the universe that the galaxy is in.
We live in a particularly privileged place. We live on a planet that has all the right ingredients for life, including:
We’re at the right distance from our Sun so that temperatures are conducive to life.
We have the right atmospheric pressure for liquid water at our surface.
We have the right ingredients — the right balance of heavy elements and organic molecules — for life to arise.
We have the right amount of water so that our world has both oceans and continents.
And life started on our world very early, sustained itself for our planet’s entire history, and gave rise to us: sentient, self-aware creatures, Our universe contains too much order for our existence to have been created out of chaos. We are complex beyond our imaginations and when you look at such a complexity, you see God and His creation.
Signs we can witness within animals
1: Homing Pigeons
All of us have probably seen pigeons – they are abundantly common in the skies. In fact, as I was reading more about pigeons, I didn’t realize how useful pigeons have been – and specifically, the homing pigeon.
The homing pigeon is a variety of the common pigeon that has the ability to find its way back home across long distances. In the wild, this means that they would be able to return to their nests and their families. When we humans discovered this trait, we used these homing pigeons to carry messages. Back in the day before text messages and e-mail (do you remember such a time?), homing pigeons would carry messages written on thin paper (like cigarette paper) in a small tube attached to one leg. They called it pigeon post!
But have you ever wondered how homing pigeons have this ability to find their way back home from distant places they have never visited before? I did! What I found out as a result was fascinating as well as spiritually instructive.
I discovered that most researchers now believe pigeons find their way home using a “map and compass “system. Their internal “map “helped determine which direction would get them home. And their internal “compass” helped them fly in that direction.
While there are still discussions on how pigeons “map “their way home, researchers are unanimous that a pigeon’s compass is the sun and the earth’s magnetic field (either one or both if necessary).
Through fascinating experiments, researchers found that pigeons were able to find their bearings in bright conditions using the sun as their compass. But even in overcast conditions, pigeons were still able to find their way home if they had a good sense of the earth’s magnetic field. So, when researchers went further and tied strong magnetic bars to pigeons on an overcast day, then the pigeons compass system became disoriented from sensing even the earth’s magnetic field. Just to prove that it was the magnetism of the bars, when non-magnetic brass bars were used, the pigeons reached their destination without a problem!
As we renew our mind, we re-establish our compass. We reject the disorienting attractions of the devil,
We might get lost in our Journey trying to reach our destination so make sure you choose God’s Word as our moral compass.
I once stayed with a friend who had a sheep dog. This dog looked just like most other dogs that I had seen, but its personality and behavior was quite remarkable. It didn’t bark a lot, but it was also very determined. It was extremely loyal and brave, and so was very good at protecting the house, and so good for a family with small children in it.
So, I decided that I wanted to learn more about this beautiful animal. I read more about this dog and learned that it is very affectionate with people it knows. It has adapted into a marvelous companion to humans, but is still extremely industrious and dutiful. It gets along with most other dogs and pets. It is slightly reserved with strangers, and people who are not welcome will be stopped in their tracks.
But it was its behavior in the wild while attending to sheep which fascinated me.
The sheep dog often helps a shepherd take care of his sheep. In mountainous areas, these dogs can be left for long periods alone with a flock. Sheep dogs are so trustworthy and will not roam off and leave the sheep. They are always on the alert for predators (e.g. wolves) and will aggressively drive off all predators.
So, sheep don’t really care for this watchdog… that is, until the wolf shows up!!! Then the entire flock all look to the sheep dog for protection. When the wolf shows up, they’ll do just about anything that the sheep dog wants them to do! The entire flock can’t run soon enough and hide behind the lone sheep dog. When facing the wolf, the sheep dog is their only hope of protection.
This is what I learned is a fundamental difference between a sheep and a sheep dog:
Sheep live their lives as if the wolf doesn’t exist and as if the wolf will never attack them. Sheep dogs, however, live their lives as if the wolf could come at any moment. Their entire existence is wrapped up around protecting the sheep that they have been entrusted with.
What a beautiful picture of a selfless protector. What a beautiful example of sacrifice for the survival of the weaker ones.
These people follow the rules, but they don’t rely on them. They have learned to love and accept the sheep instead of seeing them as patsy’s to be taken advantage of. For the most part, they let others live their lives, but when someone must step forward to lead or protect, the sheepdog has decided that it will shoulder that burden. These people ask nothing and give all they can afford to give. This can inspire us to live always alerted of the wolves which is a metaphor for the trails we face in our daily lives. We have to defend ourselves and others. Be an Alerted Sheepdog
Here are six ways God could be reaching out to you in ways you never thought of before:
1. While serving others
Have you ever served someone, and while you were serving, you got the feeling that you should change something in your life? Has someone you served said something that had a life-changing impact in your life? This is God speaking to you. These people are not placed in your life by accident. He places them there.
Nothing brings more peace and happiness in this life than giving of your time to help someone else. God is always more willing to answer our prayers when you are willing to give a lending hand to help someone in need.
2. Studying your scriptures
There is an old saying that says, “When you want to talk to God, you pray. When he wants to talk to you, you read your scriptures.” God speaks through his written word, and nothing can enlighten you more than sitting down and cracking open the Bible. So, the next time you open your scriptures and a particular verse stands out to you, know that God is reaching out to you.
3. Acts of kindness from other people
Have you ever had a bad day, and at the moment you need it most someone approaches you to tell you are an awesome person? Or when everyone in your family is sick, and a friend brings over a huge pot of soup to share? These are moments when people feel the need to reach out and help you. Anything that’s good must come from God, and it does. Many times, people are prompted to reach out and help. God uses them to answer your prayers.
4. Feelings that come to your heart
Often times, when we pray, we expect a huge sign from God. However, most of the time, he speaks to us through the feelings in our heart. Have you ever prayed and felt this overwhelming peace? That is God letting you know he is there for you and is telling you yes to the things you are asking.
Other times, do you get an uncomfortable feeling? A feeling like maybe you shouldn’t do it? That is also God talking. He will never lead us to do anything wrong. That is him telling you no, don’t do that.
Sometimes no feeling can be an answer to our prayers. It could mean, “Just wait a little longer. You’re not ready quite yet.”
5. Tender mercies
“Tender mercies” are like little love notes God sends us to let us know he is there for us. This can be anything: You get a phone call from your mom at the moment you were thinking of her. You didn’t think your car was going to start and it all of sudden starts. These are the moments God is telling you he is there for you. Most the time, you are the only one who is benefited from them because it was exactly what you needed in the moment you needed it.
The best way to see these tender mercies is to pray to have the ability to recognize them when they happen. If you pray for your eyes to be opened to them they will be opened.
6. Accepting God’s will above all else
Many times, God is giving a clear answer, and you are not willing to accept it. It could be that he is prompting you to go in a direction you never thought of before, and it is something you don’t necessarily want to do. However, putting your trust in God and his timing will always pay off in the end. He always has your back. He wants the best for your life. The first step to putting your faith in him is accepting his will above all else.
How to recognize a sign from God
it’s important to be open to life’s messages in their various forms. Sometimes the message is a warning – “Stop that.” Sometimes it’s a nudge – “Get ready.” At other times, it’s an encouragement – “You’re on the right path.” Whatever the message, your job is to listen.
In order to listen, we need to be open and sensitive to messages. Often, things that happen are not simply a coincidence. Here are a few ways God might be trying to tell you something:
The same issue keeps showing up again and again — maybe it’s time to address it. Do you feel The Lord leading you in a certain direction? It might seem that He told you to start your own business or write a book. You’ll soon start noticing more and more a trend or pattern of occurrences pushing you in that direction.
If you don’t feel at peace about something is room for improvement. There’s a feeling of uneasiness. Sometimes distraction can deafen our ears to the signs sent by God. In this case, the absence of peace is a loud and clear sign
A door has closed in some area of your life – perhaps there is something better or different on the horizon.
Several things come to mind when confirming a sign. First, how unusual is the sign? Is it something you would expect to see or does it occur in a highly unusual way. Second, is there only one sign or are they stacking? Third, how are they striking you personally? Do you feel an impression or communication when you notice the sign or is there no impression? Fourth, and most important, are other people who show obvious signals of being connected with God confirming your experience? It will not be against God’s teaching. Meaning you will not see a sign telling you to drink alcohol for example. Not one or two of these things are enough, you need to consider all these (and maybe others that I’m missing). The longer you’re paying attention and the more hits and misses you have the more you figure things out and get more accurate. The last thing I’ll mention I that if you aren’t sure ask God to confirm whether it’s a sign or not. If you’re serious about wanting to know He will help you out. He’s not trying to be tricky or to trick you, He’s pulling you in. So don’t get the wrong idea in that respect
Signs we can witness in Judaism
Binding of Isaac and its moral seems to be that we must be prepared to put obedience to God’s will above reason and compassion
The biblical narrative of the binding of Isaac, also known by its Hebrew term the “Akedah”
There are many ways of interpreting this difficult biblical passage. One approach is that put forth by the 19th century Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, who explores the ethical-religious tension of the Akedah in his Fear and Trembling. For Kierkegaard, the moral of the story is that of faith over belief.
Abraham went along with God’s instructions precisely because he had faith that God would in the end not allow him to sacrifice his son. Faith is not the same as belief. If Abraham believed that God would stop him from sacrificing Isaac, it wouldn’t have been a test. It’s a test because this certain belief is absent. All Abraham has to go on is faith. Too often we confuse belief with faith. While belief is comforting, faith requires a great emotional and mental leap beyond one’s comfort zone.
It is a message for us sent by God, that by following his orders, we will never be harmed. It was a trail for Abraham and he succeeded in it. We should all try to follow this model of faith.
Signs we can witness in Christianity
The spiritual picture presented in the miracle of healing a deaf-mute man is of the sinner’s moral and spiritual condition. The tongue of the unconverted person is as estranged from God as his ear. Even the most polished and educated sinner betrays an impediment in speech as soon as spiritual truths are introduced.
The methods that Jesus uses for healing this deaf-mute man are unique. They are not so much His means of healing but signs intended to explain to him how healing would come. Mark reveals the variations in Christ’s miracles. Some are healed in a crowd, some in solitude. Others are healed by a word, by a touch, or by clay. He heals a few at a distance and many when present. Sometimes the healing is instantaneous, while at other times, it is gradual. Because of His wisdom and omnipotence, God works through Christ as He deems best.
In this case, Jesus takes the man aside from the multitude. It appears that He wanted privacy to avoid any spectacle that might arise from unrestrained crowds (Mark 7:33). While away from the interruption of a noisy and pressing throng, quietly and privately, the man would be more attentive and receptive. It is important that Jesus awaken in the man a confident hope and an assured faith that he is to be healed.
Christ’s response to those who brought the deaf-mute man for healing is simply to heal him. Although they presume to dictate the method of healing, Christ nevertheless honors their faith. He often works out His purpose in spite of us. However, this is not an excuse for our own failures but a demonstration of God’s grace in granting us favor.
The man’s deafness was absolute; he could hear nothing. This greatly limited him, especially in those days when sign language and other communication helps did not exist as prominently as they do today. The poor had no access to speech therapists, and the medical practices of the time offered no hope at all.
His deafness also put him in danger, as people use their hearing more than they realize to avoid harm. Spiritual deafness is no different: When we cannot hear or refuse to hear the Word of Go, we endanger ourselves greatly, not hearing the warnings of God’s ministers against the enticement and pull of sin and its curses and penalties. While physical deafness is a very limiting disability, it does not normally lead to death, but spiritual deafness is infinitely worse, leading to eternal death.
It is a sign from God that we should use our ears to hear and interpret the verses as in the right context and we should not be spiritually deaf as the signs of God’s existence are everywhere screaming for our ears to hear and before our eyes to witness.
Signs we can witness in Islam
There is a story in the Noble Quran which bears a great lesson for man. Adam was the first man and the two sons of Adam. There arose a dispute between the two on some issue, and finally one of them killed the other. The other part of the story has been narrated in the Noble Quran “And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers. Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, “O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?” And he became of the regretful”. Surah Al-Maidah verse (30,31)
This story is not an isolated story. It gives us a comprehensive understanding; that is, in nature there are examples for man to draw lessons from. If he contemplates on these lessons, he may find wisdom for life. The fact is that with the exception of man, the whole world follows the strict laws of nature, the material and plant world follow natural laws, while animals are governed by their instinct. They have no freedom of choice. They are managed by angels. Due to this, the material world, plant world and animal world are guaranteed of not deviating from the right path. All the creatures of the world, both animate and inanimate, are examples for man. If man ponders over the natural phenomena, he will certainly discover the right way of living, which is free of confrontation, hate and violence. It is a sign for us to learn how we can live together in peace, such a powerful message of how we can all live in harmony together. To live and let live
Salat Al-Istikhara (Asking for Guidance from God)
This prayer is an extremely important volunteer prayer and it was a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad(SAW) to do this when he needed Allah(SWT) to guide him towards an action. As an example, my friend used to do Istikhara when he was choosing between classes for college. He told me that whenever he did Istikhara for certain classes the end result was always blessed because he would find out later about the other class option and find that his class was much more suited for him. SubhanAllah.
Here is a hadith about how to go about his prayer:
Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: The Prophet (P.B.U.H) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Quran. He said, “If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer): (O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, And Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You know the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter– (or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)–Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, And then bless me in it, and if You know that this job is harmful to me In my religion and subsistence and in the Hereafter–(or said: If it is worse for my present and later needs)–Then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me, and make me satisfied with it). The Prophet added that then the person should name (mention) his need. (Sahih Bukhari).
We have to realize that there may be options in life that we may want but Allah(SWT) knows that the other option is better for us. So, it is better to take council with Allah(SWT) then just take a random choice and mess up something.
As Allah(SWT) says,” . . .But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.” (Surah Baqarah 2:216).
Also, what should be mentioned is that the Jurist say that if the result is not clear it is recommended to do this up to 7 times. Do not just thing you do this once and it is like a magic 8 ball that tells you what to do. The point of this is to get inclination towards an option.
Misconceptions about istikhara:
1. Istikhara is not about having a dream. If one reviews the wording of the hadith, one finds that it is not asking for a dream, it is asking God to make one’s affairs occur in the best way. Because one did not have a dream, a sign on a bus or a billboard go by them on the highway, does not mean it didn’t “work”.
2. You CAN have a dream or a sign, and this is totally possible. But one should recognize that this is primarily about asking Allah to take control and that one is relegating his will to Allah’s will, knowledge, and infinite insight about what is best for you. And when you make this, you are finding the best way of putting your heart at ease, by asking Allah (swt) to handle your affairs with what He knows is best and finding comfort that the King of the Heavens and the Earth has your back, God willing.
Eat Pray and Love
Quoting directly from Elizabeth Gilbert’s famous book Eat pray and love
“I had finally noticed that I’d reached a state of hopelessness and life-threatening despair, and it occurred to me that sometimes people in this state will approach God for help. I think I’d read that in a book somewhere. What I said to God through my gasping sobs was something like this: “Hello, God; how are you? I’m Liz. It’s nice to meet you.” That’s right—I was speaking to the creator of the universe as though we’d just been introduced at a cocktail party. But these are the words I always use at the beginning of a relationship. In fact, it was all I could do to stop myself from saying, “I’ve always been a big fan of your work…” “I’m sorry to bother you so late at night,” I continued. “But I’m in serious trouble. And I’m sorry I haven’t ever spoken directly to you before, but I hope I have always expressed ample gratitude for all the blessings you’ve given me in my life.” This thought caused me to sob even harder. God waited me out. I pulled myself together enough to go on: “I’m not an expert at praying, as you know. But I am in desperate need of help. I don’t know what to do. I need an answer. Please tell me what to do. Please tell me what to do. Please tell me what to do…” And so the prayer narrowed itself down to that simple entreaty—Please tell me what to do, repeated again and again. I don’t know how many times I begged. I only know that I begged like someone who was pleading for her life. And the crying went on forever.
Until—quite abruptly—it stopped. Quite abruptly, I found that I was not crying anymore. I’d stopped crying, in fact, in mid-sob. My misery had been completely vacuumed out of me. I lifted my forehead off the floor and sat up in surprise, wondering if I would now see some Great Being who had taken my weeping away. But nobody was there. I was just alone. But not really alone, either. I was surrounded by something I can only describe as a little pocket of silence—a silence so rare that I didn’t want to exhale, for fear of scaring it off. I was seamlessly still. I don’t know when I’d ever felt such stillness. Then I heard a voice. Please don’t be alarmed—it was not an Old Testament Hollywood Charlton Heston voice, nor was it a voice telling me I must build a baseball field in my backyard. It was merely my own voice, speaking from within my own self. But this was my voice as I’d never heard it before. This was my voice, but perfectly wise, calm, and compassionate. This was what my voice would sound like if I’d only ever experienced love and certainty in my life. How can I describe the affection in that voice, as it gave me the answer that would forever seal my faith in the divine? The voice said: Go back to bed, Liz. I exhaled. It was so immediately clear this was the only thing to do. I wouldn’t have accepted any other answer. I wouldn’t have trusted a great booming voice that said either: You Must Divorce Your Husband! or You Must Not Divorce Your Husband! Because that’s not true wisdom. True wisdom gives the only possible answer at any given moment, and, that night, going back to bed was the only possible answer. Go back to bed, said this omniscient interior voice, because you don’t need to know the final answer right now, at 3 o’clock in the morning on a Thursday in November. Go back to bed, because I love you. Go back to bed, because the only thing you need to do for now is rest and take good care of yourself until you do know the answer. Go back to bed, so that, when the tempest comes, you’ll be strong enough to deal with it. And the tempest is coming, dear one. Very soon. But not tonight. Therefore: Go back to bed, Liz. “
A famous quote by Emmanuel Teney is what I recall regarding this.
“As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit. “
That is exactly what Elizabeth did, she asked God for guidance and her faith lead the way as she trusted God to guide her through her crisis, that what we all should do, Ask Him for Guidance, He who puts you on the road will never you in the middle of it. He will guide you from the very start to the end.
In a divine effort to wake up the soul, genuine signs often appear exquisitely tailored to the attention of each unique human person.
The most trustworthy signs come unexpectedly and without the asking, and they can strike a thousand different chords in our hearts: from delightful, sweet and serendipitous, to odd, disturbing, even horrifying
It takes an open heart, a beautiful heart, a malleable and obedient heart to notice the signs God sends, and then to swell with courage or gratitude in response.
We human beings, made in God’s image, beloved and so precious, with divine wisdom imbued in the enlightened depths of our souls, possess an uncanny ability to cling to a false sign, while categorically disregarding what God is trying to make obvious. Sometimes we just don’t want to see what stands right in front of us, or we simply want what we want, when we want it. Then if a sign coincides with our desire, we peg it as real. If it doesn’t, we toss it hastily from our minds. The sunrise is a repeated sign from God, that no matter how dark the night is, there will be always a sunrise. It is a metaphor that no matter your circumstances is working against you, There will always a new beginning. It is a lighthouse of hope. In the same context as sunset is a metaphor that everything will be ended eventually and a constant reminder of death, so learn from everything around you. Never lose your moral compass as the homing pigeon, be always on your toes ready to fight against turmoil like a sheepdog. After all signs are everywhere. So, don’t be spiritually deaf or blind. Open your heart to the concealed message.
